Pet Passport & Microchip
Once you know that the country you wish to visit, it is covered by the scheme proceed as follows:
- MICROCHIP IMPLANTATION and documentation completed. If pet already has this, we will scan and check that documentation is valid.
- RABIES VACCINATION details recorded for documentation
- BLOOD TEST 2 OR 3 WEEKS AFTER THE VACCINATION This is sent to a Government approved laboratory.
- BLOOD TEST RESULTS CONFRIMED pet is protected
- PASSPORT ISSUED with copy of blood test report
PET IS FREE TO TRAVEL TO AND FROM UK 6 MONTHS FROM DATE OF BLOOD TEST
- BEFORE THEY RETURN TO THE UK the pet must be wormed and given tick treatment by an approved vet in the country of departure (eg Frontline and Drontal Plus or equivalent)

What if my pet fails the blood test?
Your pet will need to be re-vaccinated and tested 2 or 3 weeks later.
How long does the Passport last?
As long as the rabies vaccine is valid. Check the date in your passport and ensure your pet is revaccinated before the expiry date. Most vaccines last up to three years.
What happens if there is an irregularity in the passport or the microchip cannot be found when scanned at port of re-entry?
QUARANTINE for six months.
Can I take my pet abroad after the vaccinatiopn or the blood test, without waiting for the 6 months to pass?
Yes but you cannot return with your pet until the six month period is comp[leted or you have the tests done in the country or residence and wait six months.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The current price [2010] is approximately £170. This includes microchip, vaccine, blood tests and all necessary paperwork.
